EMG JVX Set

Hey guys, I have been on a pickup quest for several months. I have tried all the usual suspects on the market. Well, I just installed the JVX set and let me tell ya, Im blown away. Great piano like tone, with that Jazz growl. Tight lows too....

Like the J set? I put those in last week while waiting for the JVX set. They were great but didnt have that warm Jazz feel to them. The JVX set mixed the best of both. Ill post a sound clip soon.

Heres a link for a sound sample. D'addario XL's, Geddy Jazz, into an Audiobox USB. Notice the sustain on the last note....

Let a bud fingerbang my Jazz at his gig last nite and WOW! The bass punched right through the mix, tight defined lows and singing highs. The JVX set rocks...

Would these work on a Squier Jazz 5?

Those sound great! However, I think your pickups are too close to the E string in that sound clip. I was noting that E string jumps out in volume way more than the others.

I dropped a PJ set in my JJ jazz bass and I've never been happier with my tone. Before that I had JX's and the J set. I spec my pickups at 2mm treble side and 2.7mm on the bass side. For the P pickup, its 2mm on the G string and 2.7 for every other string. (this is while depressing the string at the last fret). That sounds balanced to me and allows me to boost the lows without making my E string the loudest. Another indicator I use for balancing string to string output is to set a preamp with a clip light to clipping and try to get each string to light up the clip light for the same amount of time for each string. That method works, but gets similar measurements as I just mentioned when the G pickup at 2mm is balanced against the others.

Cool man! Thanks for the advice. I just slammed those in when I recorded that clip. I have since adjusted the height. Thanks again...

+1. Recently A/Bed them with a standard EMG jazz set and they were head and shoulders better. Warmer, with a more organic personality, but still great clarity.

Me too! The J's lasted three days. The JVX is like a mix between "Original Recipe" and "Extra Crispy"

I just installed the J5 (fairly new Fender V size offering by EMG)
and I'm digging them, and I'm wondering if what I have is the same as the "standard EMG" ? These are have bar magnets under a cover just like all the standard EMG's I guess.

Yeah you're beating the crap out of it but it sounds good. That upgrade is a win.
