Emg P bass pickup

Hey guys.

I just purchased the last peice of my Pimped up P bass project. A EMG P Bass pickup. Got it for around 30 Quid and its coming in the post.

What sort of sounds should i expect from it? I wanted a pickup that sounded far more modern then a passive P bass and with more treble grind (Without resorting to adding a jazz pickup)

I am after the modern funk tone Will this do it?

FWIW:

assume you're talking about the active EMG P. If you're anything like me whatever you expect it will probably be different.

But it's a solid pup and as active has the typical refined quality they're inclined to carry. Whether it will pull off the tone(s) you're looking for you'll only know once you play it.

I put one of those in my MIJ P. If you play slap, you'll probably like it. It still will be the fat-round P sound, maybe just more of it, being active. I did mine 18v, very powerful. I haven't played it in years, I had to go to a jazz configuration to get what I wanted. Having no bridge pup leaves me feeling incomplete.

How did you run it 18volt? Did you just add a second battery to it? Or was any mods done to it? Or is it a different model?

And to the first poster, yes its a standard emg P active model.

I think you'll like the punch and clarity of the EMG P. I use an EMG-35P4 (the same pickup, in a soapbar case), and I love it for pickstyle punk tones.

The 18V thing can be done with any active EMG pickup. It'll give you more headroom, and a bit more output. Your pickup should come with instructions to do this (you'll need an extra battery clip), but if it's used, you can download the instructions from the EMG website.

One battery fit in the cavity, and I had to route extra space beneath the pickguard for the second battery . Just buy an extra 9v battery clip at the Radio Shack, and run the batteries in series. And as Boo said, instructions will guide you through.
