I am thinking about trying a set of EMG pickups in my vintage P-Bass but do not want to route...Will the battery fit in the control cavity?

EMGs fit in my '76 P Bass

I have a set of EMGs in my 1976 P Bass, which I installed in the early 80s after a set of DiMarzios wore out their welcome. The battery is a little snug but I fit it in without any routing, sanding, filing or other alterations. If I recall correctly, the battery sits a little closer to the tone pot.

My first bass ever, was a P-copy that I assembled from parts myself...complete with an EMG...
yes, the battery WILL fit in the smallish control cavity...
it's a bit snug, but it works fine...
you don't have to change the battery very often, either, so it's not really an issue having it stashed in there.

Make shure battery doesn't die when it isn't supposed to. Active pickups don't support active/passive switching. Passive pickups+active electronics would be more reliable. A small cap (330pF...1nF) will shape your active-passive tone nicely.

changing a battery every few months is enough reliability IMO...the trade off with active pickups...quiet...

hear that?....of course you didn't....why?....because...shhhhhh...they're quiet...

BTW, with proper shielding passive electronics may be dead quiet
