Post EMG P/J vs. EMG P/J-X

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently refinishing my Fender Jazz & figured that while I'm at it I might as well get some some desireable pickups in there. The ones in there now leave alot to be desired.
I'm looking for a big, full, bass in yo face type a tone. So naturally EMG's are lookin pretty neat. Specifically the EMG Active P/Js

The new X series claims more headroom and a more "organic & open" tone...
Now, I'm not sure what any of that means. So I was hoping some folks could give me a quick 'what to expect' for tone differences between the two

Less compressed - more dynamics and touch sensitivity. I don't think anyone has reviewed any of the new -X series on here, but they're apparently different enough that they're keeping the old line.

EMG's have a useful tone, but it's very clean, I wouldn't describe it as full. Are you sure you don't want a nice, full, 62 RI Pbass pickup? Or a P bass in general?
