OK, first this belongs in the "pickups and electronics" forum. Second, you have to give us something to work with: For what purpose? In what bass? For what style of music? New or used? Compared to what other pickups? Etc.

My EMG P bass pickup has been great for about 29 years. I love it, one of the earlier active pickups available for the P bass. Sounds awesome!

Very valid points! Let me put a trailer on my post. For my purposes my EMG hot pickup was one of the better mods I've made on one of my basses. It gave mine a bit more bottom end and better (IMHO) growl than the stock passive pickup.

I'm curious in general what people think of them, and how versatile they are. I know their guitar pickups are used for metal, but i think the p pickups are probably more versatile.

I an not familiar with their current line for P bass, I was shopping their pickups for 6 string basses a while back...

But generally I can say that the pickup system I bought all those years ago for my P bass was a great investment and has held up very well. The tone improved as I noted better range, more output and improved tone generally.

I think its a great enhancement to you p-bass. Alot of guys dont like them because they say they dont keep the original tone of the bass or its wood etc.
I had an EMG P pickup in a Westone Concord I YEARS ago and in turned it into a monster!!! Tons of punch, crystal clear. I also had a PJ sets in a Westone Thunder I and a Fender Jazz Plus. I like them alot.
