Anybody have any sound clips of EMG P5Js? I'm tryin to get an idea of the tone they produce. I'm looking at getting them for my ESP,but I can't find any sound clips or much info.

EMG has clips of the J on their site. I used to use the 40P5 and 40J pickups in all my basses.

The P5 has the two coils wired in parallel, so it doesn't have the full tone you would expect from a P, and has a brighter scooped type of tone. It's a nice sounding pickup, but I had always wished it was a bit fatter in the lower mids.

I was always looking for more low end from the J at the bridge as well.

So they're kinda thin sounding? Or just really scooped?

Maybe I should ask this mainly. I like the tone that my ESP gets already, but it's a little quiet, and lacks some definition. I mainly use that bass for hard rock and grunge. Do the emg's get a nice punchy and growly tone?
