| | | | EMG Pickup position: Which is best

Hey TB'ers
Which of these EMG pickup combinations and positions are best for overall balance and slap tone.
Neck - EMG 40J
Bridge - EMG 40CS
or
Neck - EMG 40CS
Bridge - EMG 40J
I know there are other pickups that could be used, but please let me know about these combinations first before I venture into other pickups. |

As the 40J is a single coil, it might serve you best in the bridge, but then you can't get any of that MM vibe from that...
My fav config for raw slap tone was the Lakland I briefly had - J in bridge, MM in bridge, both barts - - man, that bass could spank it... damn, another bass I miss. I'm gonna tear up here... |

| | | | Ya,
I already have these pickups. I had an EMG 40P at the neck originally but I don't really like the tone of it. I have now just picked up the 40J and wnat to know where the best place to put it is. |

| | | | it's best placed where you like the sound best. i'm surprised those two pair up well, seems to me the output would be quite a bit different. |

| | | | Well actually te 40J is on it's way. I should be getting it this week or hopefully next week. So I have not actually paired the pickups yet.
Is the 40P a lot louder than the 40J? My 40P and 40CS combination was fine in terms of output level. I was thinking that since the 40P and 40J pair up well, the 40J and 40CS would do the same. |

I recently played BFISHER1970's Ibanez with 40TWs with passive volume and tone controls and was blown away by the tone. Makes me want to consider some mods to my J5 with EMG Js on it already.

The 40J sounds good at the bridge with a 40P5 at the neck. That used to be the standard pickup configuration on my basses.

| | | | I could do that too since I have all 3 pickups. I should try it. I didn't really like the 40P that much though. You liked it?
By the way my 40J came it |

| | | | I think that's why I don't like it. I find it mid shy. The 40J is supposed to have a more prominent mid range but less bass. |
