ESP B-206 - Aguilar or ESP preamp?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an ESP/LTD B-206 that I would like to shove a new system in. This bass is set up in F# and I play it in an experimental metal band that is influenced by Meshuggah, Bulb/Periphery, Despised Icon, Ion Dissonance, After the Burial, and any band that likes to use the term "djent."

It has two active pickups and five knobs. I was leaning towards the Aguilar OBP-3 preamp with mid-frequency selector switch, but at the same time I am looking at the EMG BQS system, which is slightly cheaper. I've heard so many good things about Aguilars, but I have no idea what pickups I would use with them. Maybe Bartolini? I've always heard good results from this combination, but never in an ESP.

If I bought the EMG, I would probably get EMG pickups.

Any recommendations? Any pros/cons to what I've thought about so far? I was interested in trying some Nordstrand pickups, but I might wait until I get my next bass which will be custom built (a project down the road).

(I'm sorry if I made this thread already, but if I did it probably didn't get any replies).

Thanks,

Josh.

At present we only have really old songs. These songs aren't played anymore, and they were recorded when the boys had six string guitars.

We're not 100% what we we're going to do for a band name. We used to be The Blessing, but we changed it to John Doe until we figure out what to do.

We're recording Saturday night so new material will be available soon. Our newer material is much heavier. It has a lot of polymetric rhythms and off-time guitar tracks. We have played with Ion Dissonance and other bigger bands and seeing them live puts us to shame, haha.

i have Aggie obp-3, i hardly use it, i like my passive tone a lot and it works with my fuzz better without it engaged. it does work very well though.
