ESP pickups + euqalizer

Hi my nephew has got hold of a cheap second hand P&J bass guitar ( Chinesse)
He was wondering about these pickups & this equalizer .
He has limmited $ to spend, I was wondering what you people thought of the products etc thanks

FWIW:

Artec makes good stuff and appears it will work with the pup -and pretty much any other.

If he's got the pups, why not install them and see what they sound like as is. If he doesn't like them passively the pre probably isn't going to make much difference cause you can get similar controls that pre (most onboard pre's in fact) offers in contemporary amps that offer active eq - especially if the amp has a gain control in addition to volume. If his amp doesn't then it shouldn't be hard to find one that does to check it out.

Unless it's a power amp, it has a pre built in. The main advantages to an onboard pres is for more onboard tone control and long cable cable runs - neither of which is likely to be of much consequence to someone who would buy that pup basically not knowing anything about it other than price and shape.
