Esquire Controls on Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I am putting together a short scale Tele shape bass along the lines Rhomco’s tele bases. This one being an off the shelf Tele body and a Bronco 30” scale neck. The pickup will be a Fralin Split 51 humbucker in what was once the Tele bridge position.

Because it will have just one pickup and the neck will be set deeper into the body occupying the space of the Tele neck pickup I was going to look at it as an Esquire Bass. In that theme I was considering using the full control set w/switch and using the Esquire wiring pattern.

Switch positions:
1 - pickup w/volume & no tone control
2 - pickup w/volume & tone control
3 - pickup w/volume and signal is run through a capacitor for fixed bassy tone.

I’m fishing for recommendations or experience as to whether this is even worth a try.

Any recomendations as to cap value for this application.
