Ever heard of Quest basses?

I hadn't until I saw one for sale online. The only info I could find on it was that I think its made by this company called Vantage guitars and it's Japanese. Anyone else ever heard of it?

Honestly its a real pile but I think that's why I want it. With a little work I think it could become a real beast . Viewers will be like "What the eff is that $*!^" but then when I play they'll be all "SAYYY WHHHAAAT?"

It's a p/j bass fretless with passive emg's and an unknown pre amp. Mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard. So what kind of pups and electronics could I put in a bass like this to make people's jaws drop when they hear it? I want something hot, aggressive, growly, and full of low end real scruff Mcgruff.

I basically want to make it the bass version of this

So if you have some suggestions please let me know, and I know fretless aren't really meant to rock but for 150 dollars I'm willing to take that risk

I've looked at a couple on eBay recently. They are one of the myriad that "might" have been made in that legendary Japanese factory. Here is the one I had my eye on and still might bid on if it were to come back: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_2369wt_930

Hmmm, interesting. I hope the buyer bought it to play it. Had you ever heard one before?

It didn't sell and no, I'd never heard of them before which is probably why I didn't bid. I do like the look of that particular one anyway.

Made in the Matsumoku factory, sold as a division of Vantage. The brand was primarily used to try out stuff that was more aggressively styled than Vantage-branded instruments.

Here's a catalog scan:
