EVH Low Friction pots

Sign in to disble this ad
I was skimming through the latest MF catalog, and I came across this item. Low friction pot? What's that all about? Do they grease up the bottom of the pot shell? Anyone have any experience with these?

LOL, awesome. No, I think they leave the damping grease out of the $1.76 Bourns damped pots, and stamp EVH on the back.

ROFL. Really.

Grease makes the pots smooth. These have no grease.

I can tell you that if you buy a Bourns "guitar pot", that they feel pretty much exactly the same. And the Bourns guitar pot is way cheaper. $2.58 at Mouser, compared to $12.50 for the EVH ($9.92 Eddie tax).

I think they feel kind of cheap. When you spin the shaft, it turns with very little friction, but feels kind of scratchy. I guess they are good if you do swells and stuff.

Duncan is going to have some real nice smooth action Bourns pots out soon, including a low friction YJM pot. I have a few here and they feel nice (the smooth ones that is).

Lol.

I think that is hilarious, honestly.

FWIW, those are audio taper pots.
Not what I would use for a volume pot, but I guess that's the standard.

I agree as well. I've got CTS pots in everything I own, and they've never let me down.

Verdict: EVH Low Friction pots = marketing gimmick.

Well the pots are good pots, but the gimmick is the EVH logo and the extra $9.92 for that logo. The regular Bourns version seems to be the same pot. They are very good pots, and they only cost $2.58.

As far as the low friction thing... if you do swells it's probably important. I like the smoother feeling pots better.
