f spaced?

Sign in to disble this ad
A friend of mine just bought a humbucking guitar pickup but he said that when he opened the box he found instructions reading that the pickup was "f-spaced." Has anyone ever heard of this and if so what does this mean? Thanks in advance.

It's a string spacing reference used by DiMarzio. Fender spacing is wider than Gibson spacing. This Fender spacing applies to Fender-style guitars as well as guitars equipped with Floyd Rose trem systems, so they call it "F" spacing. The wider spacing allows the strings and pickup polepieces line up properly on these kinds of guitars.
