Favorite Instrument Cable?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB,

I've been wanting to buy new cables for some time now, but I don't know where my money is best put.

All I'm looking for is good quality build and durability (flexibility too). I don't care too much for better sound quality, as long as it works well and lasts long.

Basically, I'm looking for the best bang-for-the-buck cable. Not too stiff. Not too extravagant (gold tips etc). No oversized/undersized jacks. Not too expensive.

Also, I'm new to all this bass knowledge, so are there any rule of thumbs for this and whatnot? Amps tend to have a lot of technical information that I have a hard time understanding, and I'm wondering if cables have anything technical to them too that I should know.

Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum (I tried searching, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for).

p.s. What troubles me from just buying any cable from the store/online is that I don't know what I'm getting. They could be too small or large, shoddy quality, etc. I'm asking for your expertise and experiences!

Really, look for anything with a lifetime warranty and metal sleeves*. Planet Waves cables are commercially available; come in a variety of sizes; have a lifetime, no-hassle warranty; are well-constructed; and are relatively inexpensive.

Monster 100, the ones with the gold ends are not flexable enough.

Live wire elite or the equivalent Mogami. I use live wire elite myself. Diff gives better detail to the sound then other lower price cables Ive had.

There isn't anything technical about cables. I use canare cable with switchcraft ends. The cable doesn't try to coil back up and trip you and the ends are super easy to take apart and resolder if you have to.
