feedback problem with J pickup.

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an ibanez Blazer bass with a P style pickup. I just recently routed out the bridge area for a J pickup. I installed and wired it like a normal jazz bass. It seems that when i have both pickups on full blast and add any small amount of gain to the signal i get a high pitch feedback that is around the 1-2k range. if i turn down the jazz pickup then it goes away. I thought that it was microphonic feedback, but it did it with two different pickups. i tried disconnecting the tone pot just to see if there was interference there and there is not.

anyone have any ideas?

have you tried lowering the jazz pickup a bit? It could also be the location of the pickup, maybe it is in the spot of a strong harmonic or something. Does certain notes cause it to feedback more?

it feeds back when i am not playing. if i put it very much lower it will be very quiet, and mostly uses less.

i am thinking about pickup a noiseless pickup i guess

another thing you could try is bypassing the other pickup and leaving the J pickup by itself and see if you get any feedback this way?
