Are these any good? What kind of sound and output do they have? Any help is appreciated.

Get a set of the Bill Lawrence P bass Pups. Their sound is AMAZING and the price is right too. I just received my first J bass pups from them and I like them better than the Duncan Antiquity IIs. If you are not hip to Bill, do a Google search. He has been making pups since the age of the Mastadons and they sound AMAZING and the price is right too!

I've used Fender '62 reissue Jazz Bass pickups and they've been fine - I'd put them up against a standard set of Duncan SJB-1's. Nothing extraordinary, but solid. I'm thinking of getting Bill Lawrence P-Bass pickups for a project bass. Then again I'm strongly feeling the call of the Dark(Star) side.

I'd say in general the Fender pickups will hold their own against a standard Duncan set pickups - there's no compelling reason to upgrade stock Fender pickups any more. Duncan makes great pickups - pretty much my favorites - and Fender hangs with them just fine. That doesn't mean that I don't want to try Lawrence or Dark Star. It does mean that I'm confident saying that if your looking for what the Fender '57 reissue pickup claims to do, you won't be disappointed.

Good luck

The American Vintage '57 and '62 Precisions have the same pickup, except the '57 has raised pole pieces under the A string to replicate the original. It's available on the aftermarket at the "Original":

I've tried a few basses with this pickup, and my impression, however vague, is that it has slightly less low end than the modern American Standard pickup. They sound pretty close though. True vintage P-bass pickups are inherently bright, but associated with deep thump due to using flats, cutting the treble, etc.
