What I think is that almost every week, the same question is asked on this forum (not just this question), even though people go to the trouble of creating and maintaining stickies for common questions. Not only that, but the questions are already answered in detail in many threads. Additionally, there is a search facility, but what the heck - ask the same question again, again, again........................and again and again..............

I believe this was the stock pickup in my MIM 50's P (alder maple). It measures about 10.5k. I found this pickup to be old school sounding but had a lot of low mids. I had one room I used to play at that this bass would get too boomy and muddy. I replaced it with a Nordstrand NP4 and have been very happy. The NP4 had fewer low mids which is fine by me with an alder P. It retains clarity as the tone it rolled off. I am playing it with 760FLs at the moment and get a really deep, punchy, organic sound. Believe it or not, the praise band leader prefers my P bass with flatwounds over my Sadowsky RV5. And I think the NP4 is a part of that. The NP4 responds well to a slight roll off on the tone control with a 0.1uF capacitor. Phat City!

Regarding info and sound clips of the '62 (comparison with NP4 and stock), Nemo's post might help:

P-pickups NP4 vs. Fender '62 (soundclips included)
