Kind of an average of the best P Bass sounds over the years, leaning more to the pre CBS '60s sound. It's VERY Fender, there are many other brands that make P style pickups that sound different (some slightly and some very different) but the '62 is the best choice for a good Fender P Bass sound.
BTW it's the only P style pickup I use when I build or modify a Bass..... For 5 string I use the Fender Am. standard 5 string P Bass pickup.
I play Blues, R&B, Classic Rock & Funk

Thanks. | Yes, that is the packaging these days for the '62 pickup. Those are the ones used in the '62 re-issue P-Basses and alot of Custom Shop stuff. |

They are fine for blues and even better for pop music. They give the sound you heard on many hits from the 60s. But keep in mind they are only partly responsible for your sound. The rest is amp, speakers, strings and fingers. In any event, these pups won't stand in your way ;-)

Just wondering how these compare to the standard pickups...

Just wondering how these compare to the standard pickups... | The last roadworn I played sounded like it already had one in it.
