I had both and liked both; for equal money I'd choose the Fender.

I'm also interested in this comparison as I have SPB-1's at the moment in a reliced luthier P and don't find they sound anything like my friend's real '64 P.

Same pickup is going to sound different in different instruments.

Trying both pickups in same instrument might be a more accurate method.
