Fender (American) Deluxe Precision Pup question

Sign in to disble this ad
hello. In short I am going to have a project bass, and want to go along the lines of this bass...

So I am going to get one of them humbuckers, and throw it on another bass.

My only hangup is that the model bass is active.

I have little understanding of this, other than active means 1 of 3 things...

1) regular (would function fine passive) pups with an onboard pre
2) pickups that are weak and need power
3) pickups that are weak and need power and have an onboard pre

(no?)

Anybody have experience with this pickup and/or bass? Does it need a battery to run? A pre to run?

Am I over thinking this?

Am I fat?

Anyways thanks. I am a noob of sorts, so try not to stone me.

EDIT:
Its my goal to make it a passive bass.

I have both a Fender Am. Dlx P Bass (active) and a Schecter Diamond P 5 Deluxe (Passive). Since the Schecter is passive ...it can be done..... ( the new Fender Am. Dlx P is active/passive)the Schecter is VVT, the Fender is VBtmb. Do you have the bridge pickup yet ? if not you may want to look here:

of course there are other humbucking pickups that would work. You just need to find out if they are a good match (impedance and out put)

and no, your just big boned

Thanks for the reply. That website will be dangerous. I don't have the pickup yet. I've heard this bass, and have gotten to play one, and it was fantastic. I really dig the setup, but I am not an "Active bass" kind of guy. Plus I don't want to dump money into a decent pre-amp. I am open to other pickups, its just that one seemed to do what I wanted. Time to keep looking/researching, the economy may work, I really like the price.
