Fender Bass VI

I'm planning on building a Bass VI style bass, but I'm not a huge fan of these pickups. Will any guitar pickup work or do I need something special?

I'm gonna say - based on my experience with tuning guitars an octave down - that ordinary guitar pickups will work fine.

However - I will say that it gives you a very guitar-strung-an-octave-down sort of sound. If you want a bassier sound, I would suggest using a bass pickup with rail polepieces.
