Hi, im looking for a growling, punchy cuting-trhough the mix jazz pickups to put in my custom one piece maple-ebony neck
ash body. I ll use it in a new metal band. I already have a custom bass with duncan stingray+ P pickups .

My choice are: fender custom shop
dimarzio model J
Duncan stk-2
Duncan sjb-3
Someone may help me doing a choice?

Thanks!

FWIW:

never played metal but from what I can gather from the amps its distortion. For guitar typically that means hi-output pups. I'm guessing a bass player would look for the same.

I've had lots of pups including CS's, Hot stacks, and model J - but I don't play distortion. What I've learned is I'll know what a pup will sound like to me through my gear to my music when I play it.

You've got a number of pups that show often used. I would pick up the first set in that group used for a price I could sell them for and try them out. Not good enough, I'd sell them and go on to the next one's that show.

I would also google for reviews. Lot of guys play metal and there are bound to be reviews on those pups played to metal. That should establish a priority of trial or perhaps eliminate a set if nothing else. It's easier to rule out what you don't want in reviews just like it's easier to tell what you don't like than do like in hearing.
