For those of you who have bought any of the Fender reissue
basses from Japan, what do you think of this US vintage pickups they come with?

How do they compare to Fralins, Nordstrand's etc.?

FWIW:

Not that up on Fender stuff but a lot of their MIJ MIM basses have US pups in them. I know some of the MIJ basses had MIJ pups in them. I had one of those that was PJ and didn't think much of those pups. But some of their US pups I haven't thought much of either. Fender's pretty obscure as to what exactly they stick in some of their basses so unless they state specifically, I'm guessing they may stick whatever needs to move off the shelf into them at a given time.

Go to harmonycentral.com bass reviews and see.

They're listed as US vintage pickups but who knows what that means?

I'm sure the Fralins or Nordstrands would be nice improvement in sound.

bringing this old post back to life.

I have Fender Jazz CIJ Reissue 62 that according to the serial # is from 93 or 94. I got it second hand a few months ago. The pick ups show some rust. I check some other CIJ Fender Reissue 62 and also show some rust. So this seems to be normal. In any case, are those PUs USA, Japan? Does anyone know.

Their sound is ok. Quite fat and with low out put but the fact that they have rust makes me think that me be they are jut cheap PUs.

I'm not sure how you get from rust on the poles to them being cheap pickups. Metal rusts if it's not taken care of. If they are alnico rod magnets, they can also rust, as can steel pole pieces used on pickups with ceramic magnets.

But neither makes them cheap. I have real vintage Fender pickups from the 70s, and they are a little rusty.

Also, there's nothing all that different from the way Fender makes pickups from a lot of the import pickups.

Hi SGD,

Thanks for your input. Sorry I'm not much of a technical guy and based my comments on info I got from a friend who is a luthier who told me that Alnico doesn't rust and usually the ones rusting are the cheap ceramic PU. Therefore my assumption.

As I said anyway, the PUs in my bass sound pretty good but I would like to have more info on what type of PUs factory used for these basses.

Opposite to what I usually see on 2nd hand American made Fenders, the japanese reissue model tends to show rusty poles. At least that is what I can see on the basses sold over here.
