Fender Custom Shop '60s J-Bass Pickups vs. EMG EMG-J Active Bass Pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
i own a 2001 fender MIM j bass and i am thinking of upgrading my pickups. right now, i just have original stock pickups in them that are getting a bit low and rusty x_x; i am looking at Fender Custom Shop '60s J-Bass Pickups and EMG EMG-J Active Bass Pickups.

i want to know which pick ups do you favour and your reviews, thanks!

They're two completely different pickups. The EMG's can be described as modern (others say harsh and sterile), while the Fender 60's will probably have more of a vintage vibe.
It really does depend on what tone you like.

I have both and love both. However they sound nothing alike.

The CS 60's are low output and hum, but they have the vintage clanky single coil vibe and growl by the bucketloads.

The EMG J's are stacked humbuckers and very high output at 18v. They will have crystal clear highs and a massive low end.

IMHO vintage sound -> CS 60's; modern sound -> EMG J's.
