Thumbs up Fender Custom Shop 60's Jazz pups

I got a Classic 60's Jazz a couple months ago and was looking to upgrade the pups - the stock set was noisy and somewhat unbalanced from string-to-string to my ears. I considered Nordies and Fralins, but I found a new blem set of CS 60's on eBay at a bargain price ($69 shipped), so I took the plunge.

I'm happy to say I have zero regrets. Installation was fairly simple. The pups came with a set of grounding plates, of which I unsoldered the arm to the bridge, and soldered to ground on the volume pots - this cleaned up the noise significantly. The pups themselves sound great - like the package said, the lows and mids are growlier, while adding a clarity to these notes unheard with the stock set, and the highs are clear with less harshness. After adjusting the pup height per Fender's website, the string-to-string balance is excellent.

My modding of basses is now complete, unless I decide to upgrade the pups on my P/J....

I recently got a set as well and put them in my Jazz (which has an Audere pre-amp in her). I really do like them, but not in love with them. Well, they are what they say they are, vintage sounding. They are just a bit dark. If you want something just a little brighter in the mids (and cut thru the mix a bit better), I recommend the Fender "Original Jazz Pickups" which I had in the bass right before the Custom Shop 60's.

My F bass cuts thru the mix like nobody's business and the Fender Original pickups that were in my Jazz sounded closer to my F bass. The Custom 60's are darker with more bottom. I'm thinking about swtiching back. I'll give it another gig or two. Maybe they will grow on my a little more.

I haven't tried the Jazz in a band setting yet, so I'm not sure how it will cut. My P/J is my go-to in that context.

In practicing, I definitely like the additional bottom-end. It's pretty much what I was searching for.
