Fender custom shop pickups, worth the cost ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have both a P and a J bass from Fender.
They are Japanese made in 1990 and 1997.
According to the seller at the guitar shop, all that
is missing on this basses, is Fender Original or
Fender Custom shop pickups !
Is there a significant performance boost by changing
to let's say fender custom shop pickups ?

They are stock Japanese made pickups.
They sound ok.
I once replaced my Strat 79 pickups with was
state of art Di'Marzio copys of vintage 57.
What i got was a different sound, more treble
lower output and the round mid range sound was harder.
I later put it back to the original and sold the acclaimed Di'Marzios.
So i am speculating if all i get is different sound or
as he claims the newer pickups will make my bass sound
nicer regardless.

If your basses sound nice to start with, then the CS pickups will be an improvement.

The CS 60's are the freakin' bomb... I have a set in my classic 60's Jazz and my Marcus Miller. They kill with the stock preamp in the Marcus

I have an CS Original '62 in my parts P-Bass and I love it. It has that fat vintage tone.
