First time pot upgrade/modification-help?
I recently acquired a Squier P bass as part of a gear trade. The previous owner routed and installed a set of Dimarzio P/J pickups in the bass and wired the pickups to have independent volume knobs, but no tone knob. While the bass sounds
massive, I am not a fan of the open tone knob sound. I would like to add a tone pot while keeping the option of independent volume controls.
Would adding a stacked volume/tone pot be an effective solution for my need? I have no idea what to buy as far as brands or specific parts are concerned, so any suggestions would be warmly received-as well as wiring diagrams/advice, or anything else you could think of.

I'd say you want a stacked vol/vol and a separate tone pot. Stacked pots are easy to find. just check out Stew Mac or AllParts or any other guitar parts store.

For wiring, just do a Google search of "PJ bass wiring diagram" . There are a few different ones using two volume, one master tone(like a Jazz bass). Just modify that wiring for a stacked volume pot.

If you have no caps at all, you can try different cap values across the output jack. No tone pot, but you'll still get the treble cut. That would be the easiest and cheapest way, but it lacks the adjustment a pot has.
