So, Gizmag has an article about a new kind of pickup, the Fluence by Fishman
, which they (Fishman) are claiming is the first real renovation in guitar pickups in 80 years. So far as I can tell, the idea is that the coils are in PCBs instead of being wound, and that this configuration gives greater repeatability, and thus greater standardization in the pickups.
I don't see that they have a bass pickup yet, but I find the promises interesting. Anyone who knows more about the electronics than I do have anything to say about these?
