Question

Sign in to disble this ad
My L2000 seems to work just fine in the passive mode, but when I flip either the active bass boost or active treble boost, the volume actually drops from the passive volume and I get a flat dull signal with no high boost or low boost for either of the active selections. It really does sound great on the passive side, but I am not sure that my active preamp is working. I have changed the battery and the strings and even raised the PUPs. Also it is 10 years old and a fretless, for what it is worth. Any info would be appreciated.

I have a 20 year old L2000E that starts to distort in active mode after playing it awhile. It's fine in passive mode. I'd like to find out the cause or about a replacement factory preamp but G&L has been no help.

Unhappy

Brad, That is what I was a fraid of. I have a feeling that G&L wont be around in the next decade or so and am worried about finding replacement parts like an L2000 pre-amp circuit board. Well I guess I will keep trying. I wish there were junk yards for basses!

Hmm...if it's any help, here's a link to the G&L schematics
page for various models. The docs are PDF, so you'll need
an Adobe Acrobat type reader.

If the circuit board ain't dipped in epoxy or somethin',
maybe make a new one? A trip to Radio Shack...an etch
pen or resist tape, a piece of copper-clad, and some
Ferric-Chloride acid...   Craig Anderton's old book "Electronic
Projects for Musician's
" had a good section on makin'
your own circuit boards.

e-z MR. B You sure it wasn't that other thread you
started about a very similar topic (G&L preamps)? I recall
postin' the same schematic link in that one.
