So, after watching some videos and reading reviews, I am thinking about getting a USA-made G&L M2000. I've owned an L2000 since 1997 and it's a very versatile bass. The M2000 looks similar, but the reviews indicate that it's quite different tonally, yet still extremely versatile.
Anyway, the only thing that bugs me about the M2000 is that it doesn't have a way to turn off the preamp. The L2000, of course, has a kill switch. Anyone know if there's a way to mod the M2000 to disengage the preamp in the event of a battery dying on-stage. I've never had this happen at a gig, but I have had it happen at rehearsal. I imagine a push-pull pot could be installed for the volume where you could pull it off to turn off the preamp. I am not very technically minded, though, and I don't have a soldering iron, but since people figured out ways to mod the L2000s (the K-wiring single coil switch comes to mind), I figured someone must have put a "preamp-off" switch on their M2000. Or even if I could have them do this at the factory if I order a new one directly from G&L.
