Ground Wiring

Sign in to disble this ad
I am building a bass with a P/J setup for the pickups. I want to have the option of running through a vol/tone circuit and running the pickups straight to the jack. I have a 5 position super switch from stewmac to switch between pickups (http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Elec...es/i-3200.html). I would like to wire it so that the positions lay out as follows:
1. P pickup alone
2. P pickup straight to jack.
3. P/J pickups
4. P/J straight to jack
5. J pickup alone

My question is that if I run the ground wire from the pickups to their respective volume pots, will this effect the pickup when in the 2 and 4 positions? Or should I run the ground to the switch since I'm not using two of the four poles on the switch with the way I currently want to wire it.

Thanks

It would help to see your proposed schematic (not a wiring diagram). The grounds aren't the problem - the real problem is to remove the loading of the pots when you want to go straight to the jack. I have a feeling (but need to see a schematic), that you will actually need more than 4 poles to do this. Maybe not though.

I recently drew up a schematic (maybe for you? ) for a 3 way P, P to jack, and J+P. This took 3 poles.

Edit: It was you - 3-Way Wiring Question. Well, I may not want to take the time to draw anything up after the lack of responses in the previous thread.
