Hanson Pickups Wiring

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a question about installing their J pickups. They have a black/red wire and black/green wire. I can't seem to find any wiring info on these. I'm assuming that the black wires are ground and the colored wired go to the middle(hot)lug. Anyway, the bass sounds really thin when both pickups are fully on. It seems like the neck and bridge volume has to be turned all the way up to heard. If i turn one of them down just a little the sound becomes inaudible.
i had fender Noiseless pickups in the bass before. They were ground from the tone pot casing to the 3rd lug of the bridge pot to the 3rd lug of the neck pot. (not the casing). My fender pickups sounded great.

You most likely have the pickups out of phase.
Try flipping the wires around on one of the pickups.

Hanson Pick-up Leads

Yeah, Hanson pick ups are strange that way. I thought I had a problem with my Lakland JO with Hanson pick-ups and even Lakland admitted that they had wired some up incorrectly.

My JO has the black/red wired pick up with the RED to the back of the pot and the BLACK to the leg. The green/black wired pick up is the other way...BLACK wire to the back of the pot and GREEN to the leg.

Strange. These are the double stack knobs, btw.

So if you wired both with the blacks to the back of the pot they are probably NOT correct. Hanson has a website and they respond to emails so they can probably help you out.
