Help: Buzzing pickups?
Let me start by saying I know nothing about electronics and technical specs. But I'm eager to learn.
I have a new Tobias and I've noticed a buzzing and hissing that is present when I'm not playing any notes. It only goes away when I turn the bass volume knob all the way down. Didn't notice it too much until I started practicing with earphones--then it really becomes prominent. I played a show recently and when the sound guy put me through the board it really became apparent that, "Houston, we have a problem" :bawl:
At first I thought it was the amp, but then I plugged another bass into my amp and there was no problem.
What do you think is the most likely cause? I'm really hoping I can find a solution that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. I'd appreciate any advice anyone has.
Maybe treble pot or tone pot is turned all the way up.
Headphones will allow you to hear hiss that you may not hear thru the amp.
could be a grounding issue on the bass
Does it get better when you touch the strings or the output plug?
What kind of pickups does it have?
could be static electricity from the amp. of course you will hear hissing when you wear headphones.
