Even if that wasn't the problem, it's still a good idea to run that ground connection to everything.

But, I'm betting you're exactly right and that will fix it.

Sorry for the delay guys i got the FLU and it handed my a$$ to me ... it was a common ground issue! My soldering job was crap and popped off after installing everying back into place...twice... so i ended up doing my own foil sheilding job on the guard and it worked like a charm!! thanks again everyone for your time and help!

Glad you're feeling better, and glad you fixed it. Soldering to pots is not that hard really - you just didn't get the pots hot enough. You need a good iron to do it.
