Help! My bass has died.
Hello fellow users!
I'm hoping any of you can diagnose this problem.
I own a Ibanez ATK-300 (1995) with a custom humbucker pickup installed. It plays great, sounds great (with some tweaking) and is highly versatile sound wise.
However a while ago strange things started happening. When the input jack would be tilted in a particular fashion strange sounds would occur. It would sound a bit like when you rub your hand over the front part of a microphone (the part you for example; speak in). this vague rumbling like sound would persist if the input jack was tilted downwards (i expect a grounding problem). Naturally i would just tuck in my cable in between my strap and my bass and the problem would be solved.
Today i picked up my bass to do some jammin' and the rumbling started again. I muted my amp and tucked the cable in between my bass and my strap as i usually did.
All of a sudden my sound is very very faint and also gated it seems. When i pluck a string softly there is simply no sound coming through to the amp but when i pluck it hard it suddenly passes through to the amp but it sounds like its going through a fuzz box. the sound is just really really distorted.
I have no idea what is causing this, I have checked both the cable and my amp and they are both fine.
Have i blown something in the electronics? Does anybody have an answer?
EDIT: I forgot to mention the bass is active and i have used 2 9V batteries in series to power the system for some time now (instructions by pickup manufacturer)
Thanks in advance for your replies!
