HH vs. HS configuration?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!
Could you tell me what is the difference between two humbuckers and humbucker/single coil configuration? What is the better choice for "hard" music and for slapping? Or anything else, what is good to know.
thanx

both 'r good

Well, in my not so expert opinion, I think that if you're looking for full out tonal versatility, I would go with the HH config with coil-tapping. That way, you get the best of both worlds, as you get humbucker tone when you want it, and single-coil tone when you don't. However, there have been complaints from some people saying that with the HH config, the neck pu will often get in the way of their slapping and popping.

The best way to guage that is to try the bass first, and see what your fingers think. However, if tonal versatility isn't that important to you, a HS config is still very good and can cover pretty much all sonic territory you want. Basically, one isn't better than the other, it just depends what you want to hear, what kind of preamp/pickups you have, where they're placed on the body, etc etc. (well, that last sentance pretty much makes everything else I just said moot)
