Hi-Fi/Modern Pickups?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to change the Model-J's I've currently got in my Geddy Lee.

I've kinda moved away from the aggressive, mid-biased, vintage sound they give me, and am looking for something a bit more modern sounding. I recently dropped a J-Retro into this bass and I like it a lot more now that I can get some active sparkle on the high end. I know the bass itself is designed to sound vintage, with the 70's pickup spacing etc, but I'd quite like to get the a more modern sound from the pickups, if that's possible.

So what would you recommend I go for? EMG's seem to the the obvious answer, so I'm currently looking into them, but I don't want active pickups. Bartonini also grab my attention as some of my favourite bassists use them.

Thanks for any help
PJ

SGD pickups might be up your alley too! Made by an active TB'er.

I'm biding my time before getting one of the SGD HB-sized pickups for my ollllld Steinberger XP-2. Either that or I'm selling it.
