Hi-A wiring problem...

So, I did some research, this is an old bartolini pickup from the 70's. I have NO idea how to wire it. I plug it in, and all I get is the bottom coil. the top coil is dead. but i'm thinking it could be a wiring problem. this is definitely not from a factory bass. my uncle went and built a bass when he was 17 (literally built the body and everything. bought the bridge, neck, and tuners though). so he might've wired it wrong?

any help would be great! i want to get the bass up and running so i can actually use it

If there are only the two wires coming off it, I'm not entirely sure how you could get a situation where only one of the coils is working. If there was a break somewhere in the wiring, you wouldn't get a signal at all.

The only thing I could think of is the magnet for the top coil could be gubbed.

Someone else may be able to give you more help here. Sorry.
