hissing on Geddy Lee

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys
whenever i turn up the tone knob on my geddy, i can hear an excess hissing sound from the amp. it goes away a bit whenever i touch on the strings (or any metal connected to it) but still a bit of noise left. Any advice on taking away the excess noise? thanks!

Those are single coil pickups, and the high pitched buzzing you are hearing is electrostatic noise. It goes away when you turn the tone down because that cuts out the highs. That's just the way single coils are.

You can try shielding the bass better, or get noise canceling pickups.

Try shielding if if you want to. There is a stickey in here about it.

If it was understood but everyone, then why would someone even start this thread? Dont be so condescending. I'm sure before you amassed all of your vast bass knowledge, there was a time when you needed to learn something.

Comments like those by Valerus shouldn't even be posted...they defeat the purpose of even having a message board to help people.

Like bassmodder said, try some more shielding. And if you dont know something else, don't let condescending comments stop you from asking.

Check your pickup heights as well. You don't want them too close to the strings. You will still get plenty of signal with your pickups set to the proper height. You will also see a drop off of a little of the brittle top end as you lower the pickups.

It is also part of "THE" sound of single coils. it is just part of why they sound the way they do.

Mind does not hiss, but it does growl.
