Hohner B2 V replacment PUPS

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings - I have a nice Hohner headless "B2 V" 5 string bass. Plays just the way I like it and the weight is better as I get older. The PUPS are passive and quite old. They don't appear to be EMG selcts. I've owned a number of Jack Bass's and know the selects as they are marked as such. I was wondering if anybody out there has aver replaced the PUPs in this bass and if so what you used and how well did it go. I have measured them and they are 2 small for EMG 35p's which I believe are the smallest PUPs EMG makes. I guess I should mention that my 5 string Jazz had EMG's which I like, BUT I'm open to any other brands. Thanks as always...Chris P.

I just found this when doing a search on other things.

I have a B2V. The pickups are 7 string guitar HB size EMG HZ's. The only thing I can find that will fit stock and may work OK is the Dimarzio X2N7 or the Q-Tuner GL7. The X2N's are good in the B2ADB, so the -7's may be good here. Lots of people like the Q-Tuners here and I see no reason why the guitar one's aren't suitable. But they are expensive.

Villex may be able to pot his pickups into a HB7 shaped casing, but you'd need to email and ask.

Alternatively, you could have the routs enlarged slightly for the EMG40 size which will give a much broader range of BG pickups.

Funny I just ordered a pair of emg 35cs PUPS. I think they will fit. Might need a smidge of routing. I'll report back.

Interested to hear. My only concern for you is string spacing; are the 35's wide enough for a 5 string?

I ordered some custom HBCS for my XL2, but won't get them for a while yet.

Seem as if they will be. I have the printout here in front of me of the EMG PUPS and thei suze. Seems the 5 strings are pretty much crammed onto a 4 string neck. That is to myliking as I have smaller hands and am an ex guitar player. WELL 30 years ago but still I prefer smaller necks. We'll see

EMG 35DC for Hohner Bass

Well I replaced the PUPS I bought with EMG 35DC's. Turns out the others were for a Precision so The Bass Place is gratiously allowing me to exchange them for some other goodies. These 35DC's are very nice and have turned my hohner into my main bass.
