Horrible Fender Jaguar buzz

Sign in to disble this ad
I've searched this topic and it seems to be pretty common. I have a 2005 Jaguar bass and it is buzzing like crazy! I read that all I need to do is put down some shielding tape.

My buzzing is always going on, but if I touch anything metal on the bass (bridge, tuners, control plate, strings), it completely stops. Will adding shielding tape solve all of this?

Yes, shielding will solve 90% of your buzz if not all.

Get some copper shielding tape:

You need to shield all of the cavities (thoroughly I might add) so that they are grounded to each other. This includes shielding the back of the pickguard as well (at least that is what I did).

Check out this pic, and scan the forum too. You'll find some answers:
Dang Noisy Jaguar!!!

P.S. the first job I did wasn't thorough enough and I still had buzz. I went back in and made sure EVERYTHING was covered, and the active electronics buzz no longer.

Just connect the cavities with the copper tape like shown in P-odds 2nd link. The cavities themselves and the back of the pickguard are already shielded, they just need to be connected.

The Fix is easy on a Jaguar Bass!

Dude,
I just used some aluminum tape from the hardware store and put some across the cavities between each control plate and the main pick-guard. I did take one strand of copper wire across the active pickup/tone pots on the active control plate to ground on the switch.

Problem solved! My Jaguar is very quiet now! It has some hum from the single coils, but really not much.

I have several jazz basses. This is my favorite. Really great tone!
