Hot Rod Ideas for 5-String Peavey Grind NTB-5

Sign in to disble this ad
She's probably a 2006 or 07. I got her new but I suspect she had been there awhile. Anyways, she's passive and I'd like to keep her that way so I guess the question is: Who makes really hot and or sweet passive pups ( 2 x soapbar humbuckers 1.5"W x 5 1/8" L)
that would be a "night and day difference" over the stock Peaveys in the NTB 5 Grinds?
. I'm just thinking that with all the sweet woods this thing is made of (7 piece, yes I counted them many times, Mahogany with Maple "stringers" laminated neck) coupled with Imbuya (Brazilian Walnut) body wings. Very nice for the Price! My thought was that any weak link may just be in the pups. I mean she sounds sweet as she is, great to play, but I'm inclined to think that the right perscription for the pups may really turn her into a total steroid opera hotty in a Warwick bathing suit! Okay, so that really didn't make too much sense, but I think you get the pic. Has anyone experimented along these lines? If it made sense to go Active, would the stuff even fit? Just asking any fellow Peavey fans out there.

Thanks again

Check with Brian Barrett at The Low End. He's worked on a few Grinds, thinks they are a fine bass for the money.

i've got the 4 string,, also had the 5 string but let it go,, as you can see, i've modded it a bit..

first off, i changed the tuners, as the stock tuners felt really cheap,, & if you want pickups,, Nordstrand is the only way to go, imo of course. mine is a set of Fat Stacks with coil tap.
Carey makes 5string pickups also, that may not be an exact fit in your bass, there may be a sleight gap around the pickup, or for an upcharge, i think he also makes custom sizes, check his website.

Hi - NorCal, can you tell if the stock PU's were epoxy-filled or "empty"?

my original post is here:
Peavey Grind 5BXPNTB soapbars question

and I apologize for hijacking, but it is somehow related.
