Hotter J pickup

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought an SX Jazz model to experiment with and am looking for a set of pickups that give me a hotter, punchier sound with some slight bottom boost (maybe something active?). Any suggestions?

Stan Hinsley Hot-J's are VERY hot, and have a lot of lows. Great pickup, but they run about as much as Lindy Fralins.

Another good pickup choice would be Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks or Quarter Pounds. But the Hot J's sound like your ticket.

IMHO the most interesting (and satisfying) pickup so far is the Villex pickup. Very good output (not overloading hot) yet passive, great frequency response and very versatile sounds provided by a passive mid-control and tone. Really worth investigating

DiMarzio Model Js are great affordable pickups... it wouldn't make sense putting pickups in your SX that cost more than the bass!

Well that may be true if you consider price to be the determining factor for quality.
