Hottest and most aggressive pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm getting a custom Valenti jazz bass built for me. I really want a super, steroid-filled sound out of it with tons of punch and aggressiveness. I'm looking at EMG's, BassLines, Lightning Rods, and others. Anyone know which is the best? For a reference here's a link to Enrico Galetta's myspace page. Listen to the song Grand Canyon. That's the tone I'm looking for. I see he's got EMG's on his Sadowsky but which ones, and is there another company that makes similar sounding pickups?
Here's the link:

MC7FE... 7 string MM version, not the jazz version linked.
(I own the JMVC 4 FE/M2 but the bass isn't finished yet)

here is a youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YLAxRzyPpc

or better yet, the 'my music' link in my sig has the top 4 songs played the same bass as does the 2 current songs on the 'My band' link

Great playing man. Those pickups sound pretty good, although a little different than what I'm looking for. Probably just sounds like that because it's on an ERB rather than a straight 5'er. Sounds good none the less. I know YouTube doesn't do music any justice by the way it sounds. I don't care if it's a $200 Squier or a $9000 Fodera. YouTube sucks the life out of the bass.

Yeah, I can hear the growl in those. They sound pretty sweet.

My favorite hot and loud pickups are the Rickenbacker HB! and HB2 15k ohm series wound dual rail humbucker pickups.

I would never play that bass for fear of scratching it. It's gorgeous!!!

Delano describes them as "massive bottom, maximum-definition, gutsy midrange growl and a world class wide open top end" and I can only concur, having heard them both on the Clover Argo and the Human Base Daily fretted 5.

Switchable as single, parallel or series, either as quad coil humbuckers or true dual single coils, tho the one I played were the quads...
One will be on my next bass, quite certain about that ...

Siggi Jaeger of Human Base is a fan of those pickups. Here is a prototype bass he's working on for the US manufactured Human Base USA line that he showed at the MusikMesse last month which features the Delano Quad Coil Pickup. I'm going to Orange County next week to check it out in person.

Bit pricey but G&L MFD's are very aggressive. You can buy them off the G&L website.
