The Dimarzio X2N and X2NB would likely be the highest output passive pickups. Many pre's can be made high output by changing a couple of resistors. But why would you want to?

because in my experience, and it could be just a coincidence that my set up is so hot, but my bass is just so much more responsive, and i can get this uber BARK out of it by setting the gain to overdrive slightly. I tried over 30 basses before choosing the spector. Funny thing is, I had always overlooked it, but none could compare to it when it came down to it. The tone variety is not as broad as I would like but for that responsive full piano like sound i was going for it was the best.

I've yet to encounter hotter pups than the Dingwall FD-3s. They're ill!

What you're describing obviously works well with your amp, but change it and you may wish for less output depending on how the first stage overloads.

If you want a clear, wideband tone, pianolike, then high output pickups generally won't get you that because of the compromises that a large number of windings can bring. There are some exceptions, such as Villex, Q Tuner and Darkstar. Comments based on posted specs and other's experiences as of the three I only have Villex at the moment.

the pickups in my epi Tbird are so hot i need the input gain right down on my amp or i get crazy distortion, i do like the power i can have at my finger tips, so i dont need to be over heavy to get the thunderous tone, but i still like the passive fenders to fall back on when i get carried away
