Go to the top sticky in this topic forum of "J pickups dicussions and comparisions" and the top one for punch and hugh sound is the Di Marzio Model J. Ask other TBer's for their take on this pup.s punch factor.

Try changing the attack angle of your right hand, and where you place it relative to the bridge. You get a radically different tone using the corner of your fingertips at the bridge vs using the meat of your fingertips near the neck. Then of course, there are a kabillion solutions in between

I don't know what is "punchy" to you exactly, but here's my two cents...

-Boost the eq a bit around 400-500hz
-You could consider using a compressor. IMO Diamond bcp-1 does miracles for bridge pickup... I'd also recommend Markbass Compressore.

This. Maybe even a bit lower. Low-mids are where it's at.
