How to change pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am planning on getting new pickups for my bass but the pickups I have now are oddly shaped (very long) and are built into the body. So how could I change the pickups without there being wood left out on either end? Thanks

I can't find any pickups of the same size. They're Duncan designed sb-101

I am not 100%, but try Bartolini ("BC" size, which is:1-1/4" x 4" - 1.25 x 3.95 inches)..... The sb-101's were sort of in a size of their own.......
Might need to mod, If a suitable replacement can't be found. I think the bartolini "X4" (7/8" x 4-1/8" - 0.88 x 4.14 inches) is smaller than the Sb101

Those are the only pickups that I could find as close to them. The barts are about 3/8 in. shorter. What do the barts sound like? I'm looking for a real clear, bassy tone with a lot of attack. I know that the Delano pickups have a custom shop, but I don't know how mug they'll run me.
