How difficult/easy is it to install new pickups in a bass?

I'm thinking of possibly upgrading the pickups in a couple of my basses e.g. replacement P/J pickups in a Yamaha RBX460 and was wondering how difficult, or easy a job it is. I'm not a DIY expert, but neither am I a complete technophobe. Is it a job I could reasonably expect to carry out myself, or something best left to the experts? Cheers Speedrabbit.

If you can solder reasonably well you can probably DIY.
