How do I connect the two halves of a P pickup?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got an older P-bass pickup kicking around in my parts box that I would like to try in a bass. However, the pickup has NO WIRES attached at all and I'm not sure how to re-connect both halves of the pickup together.
Each half has two lugs for the coils and one for a pole piece ground plate but beyond that, I don't see any indicators to distinguish the two lugs that actually attach to the pickup coils.
I'd like to wire these up in standard series configuration for a P-bass. Does it matter which lug I choose to be 'hot' and 'ground'? I don't want to accidentally wire these out of phase or something...
Anyway, here are pics of the pickup halves. I'd appreciate any help on wiring these together. Also, if anyone can identify these pickups, that would be cool too!

Choose one terminal on one coil and use it as a hot.
Choose one terminal on the other coil and use it as a ground.
Now connect the remaining terminal on the first coil to the remaining terminal on the second coil.

If this sounds out of phase, swap the two terminals on one of the coils.

Thanks! I'll wire up the pickup and see how she sounds. How does an out of phase pickup sound compared to a properly wired one?

Also, anyone else wanna chime in with thoughts on what this pickup could be? Kind of reminds me of a DiMarzio...

You'll definitely know right away if it's out of phase.
The sound will be very thin and nasal.
