how do I get a "wet" sound

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

I'm trying to get a wet, clear, slightly punchy sound. I want a passive pickup with lots of bass (but not boomy) and crisp high-end, but not mid-scooped. I don't want a hot pickup. I'm using fender jazz bass (mexico, next one will be usa) and ampeg svt4, hopefully I'll soon move on to tube ampegs.

Some people recommend delano, kent armstrong, fender, dimarzio,... Right now I have seymour duncan spb3 and it's good, I like it, but it's too hot for me. Sjb3 isn't as hot as mine, what do you think of that pickup?

Which brands and models should I try? I know there's a lot of experienced bassists on TB, can somebody help me?

Thanks,
Greg

Not sure what a " WET " pickup sound is. That description, IMO of course, is mainly used for the certain sound that people want from an Envelope Filter...

But regarding pickups and their sound, theres a MASSIVE thread sticky on Jazz pickups that is incredibly informative.
In fact, its so massive and so informative that i get a headache reading it. :-)

Give an example of the sound you mean. When I hear 'wet' I think Justin Chancellor, but I don't think thats what you mean.
